Women’s Basketball Secures Victory Over SUNY Broome
The SUNY Orange women's basketball team took down SUNY Broome by a final score of 64-61 Wednesday night. The Colts improve to 1-5 on the season as the Hornets drop to 1-4.
Freshman Jada Reed (Eldred, NY/Eldred) had a standout game leading the Colts with a career-high 19 points while adding one assist and three steals. Reed shot 13-21 from the free throw line. Both her free throws and free throw attempts are the most for a Colt in a single game since at least the 2012-13 season.
As a team, the Colts shot 53 free throws, the most in a game since at least the 2012-13 season.
Freshman Madison Olsen (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) contributed 14 points with three rebounds, one assist and one block. Freshman Adriana Joy (Florida, NY/ S.S. Seward) was the third Colt to score double-digits, chipping in 13 points while shooting 6-7 from the free throw line.
The first half was a back and forth battle as both teams exchanged baskets. The Colts pulled away to take the lead at 28-25 going into the half.
As the Colts returned from the break they came out with energy, carrying the momentum they'd built in the first half straight into the second. They took an early lead and never let it go, securing their first win of the season.
The Colts are back in action December 11 as they travel to face Sussex County Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
