Colts Drop Heartbreaker to Bergen
PARAMUS, N.J. - Madison Olsen (Wappingers Falls, NY / Roy C. Ketcham) registered a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds as the SUNY Orange women's basketball team dropped a close 67-63 decision on the road at Bergen on Saturday.
Sophomore Adriana Joy (Florida, NY / S.S. Seward) made four three-point attempts and chipped in a team-high 16 points and freshman Jada Reed (Eldred, NY / Eldred) scored 14 points.
The Colts opened up the game on a 10-3 run behind three straight baskets from Reed and layups from Joy and Olsen and held a 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Both teams traded baskets throught the second quarter before a layup by Genesis Suazo (Brooklyn, NY / Simmons Career Center) with nine seconds tied the game at 29-29 heading into halftime.
The Colts had the hot shooting hand coming out of halftime, shooting 37.5% from three-point range and 83.3% from the free throw line to pour in 22 points in the third quarter and take a 51-47 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter saw more baskets being traded, as neither team could extend their lead to more than two points for the final 7:37 of the game. Bergen took the lead with under two minutes remaining only to see the Colts tie the game at 63-63 on a jump shot from Reed with 40 seconds remaining. Unfortuantely for Orange, that would be the last they would score, as Bergen made one more basket and two late free throws to pull away.
The Colts return to action Sunday as they host nationally ranked Fulton-Montgomery in the home opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
