Bio

Coach Rickard is entering his 13th season as the head coach at SUNY Orange. Coach Rickard has an overall record of 257-102, has won four Mid-Hudson Conference Titles, has collected four consecutive Region XV Coach of The Year awards, and has a career winning percentage of .715, the best out of any coach in school history. Coach Rickard has also been named East District Coach of the Year twice, in 2022-23 and 2024-25.  In 2023-24, the Colts captured the Region XV title. Orange also won the Region XXI championship in 2010-2011.  In the 2022-23 season, the Colts went undefeated in conference play and finished 31-3 (a school record), advancing to the NJCAA Division II Final Four. Since the 2021-22 season, the Colts hold a record of 102-17 and have been ranked in the top five of NJCAA Division II multiple times. Prior to becoming head coach at Orange, Coach Rickard was an assistant coach for 7 years and the Associate Head Coach in 2005-2006. That year the Colts advanced to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament for the first time in school history. 

 

After a successful playing career at Minisink Valley High School, where he averaged over 27.1 points per game, Coach Rickard went on to attend SUNY Orange, where he scored 1,010 career points, good for 11th all-time in Orange history. After graduating from SUNY Orange, he attended Dominican University. He was an all conference selection in 1993-94 and 1994-1995 seasons. In addition he earned All-American honors during the 1994-95 season.  Aside from coaching at Orange, Coach Rickard was a graduate assistant at the University at Buffalo in 1996-97 and the Head Coach at Chapel Field Christian School in Pine Bush, NY during the 2003-2004 season.  In addition to his coaching duties he is an adjunct Associate professor in the Mathematics department. Coach Rickard has a Masters Degree from Iona College and Stony Brook University. He resides in Orange County with his wife Amy and their four children.
