Men’s Basketball Takes Down Penn State Scranton
Middletown, NY - The nationally 14th-ranked SUNY Orange men's basketball team won their ninth straight game to open the season, defeating Penn State Scranton 113-58. The Colts improved to 9-0 on the season, while Penn State Scranton fell to 4-7.
The Colts were incredibly efficient on offense throughout the game. Freshman Anthony Pacciarelli (Monroe, NY / St. Joseph) delivered another dominant performance recording 17 points on 7-12 shooting. Sophomore Keishawn Morris (Brooklyn, NY / South Shore) added 15 points on 6-11 shooting and contributed five rebounds. Freshman Marquese Dennis (Brentwood, NY / Brentwood) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds in just 15 minutes of play.
Six Colts scored double-digit points on the night. Along with Pacciarelli and Morris, Elijah Witter (Brooklyn, NY / Nazareth) scored 10 points in 12 minutes, Gavin Williams (Fort Myers, FL / Bishop Verot) scored 13 points in 16 minutes and Giovani Rupert (Miami, FL / Flanagan) scored 13 points in only 12 minutes.
As a team, the extremely efficient Colts shot 54.5% from the field and 44.0% percent from behind the arc. The Colts' 11 made three-pointers is tied for the most in a game this season.
The Colts wasted no time setting the tone in the first half, taking an early lead of 8-0 within the first four minutes of the game. By halftime, they held a commanding 59-22 advantage.
Coming back from the break, the Colts continued to apply pressure on the defensive end to create opportunities on offense. The Colts forced 24 Nittany Lion turnovers and converted those into 35 points off turnovers and 58 points in the paint.
The Colts are back in action December 13, as they hit the road to face Sussex County Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
