Middletown, NY-The Colts closed out their season on a high note Tuesday afternoon, securing a 2-1 victory over LaGuardia Community College. With the win, the Colts finish the year at 3-8-2, while the Red Hawks fall to 2-8-1.
SophomoreJonathan Velasquez (Middletown, NY/Middletown) opened the scoring in the 30th minute, finishing a well-placed pass from fellow sophomore Nickolas Ivanov (Stara Zagora, Bulgaria/Minisink Valley) to give the Colts an early lead. Both teams battled through the remainder of the first half, with the Colts holding onto a 1-0 advantage at halftime.
LaGuardia responded in the second half, leveling the score at 1-1 with a goal from Hernan Guiracocha.
In the 75th minute, freshman Kensito Felix (Saint-Marc, Haiti/Nouveau Millénaire) scored the winning goal for the Colts thanks to a great assist from Velasquez.
Freshman Dominic Vega (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) recorded five saves and allowed just one goal to help secure the win.
The 2-1 result marks a strong finish to the season for the Colts, capped off by a home victory.
