Orange Golfers Continue Winning Ways
Hopes are high as Orange golf is off to the team's best start in the past ten years.
East Meadow, NY – The Orange golf team followed up its season opening win at Spook Rock with another one at the historic "Red Course" at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. The Red Course has a historic pedigree that has seen many professional tournaments held on it, including the 1926 PGA Championship, one of golf's four majors. The par 72 course is as challenging as the golfers in Region XV are going to encounter.
The match offered a full field yesterday as every team in Region XV was in attendance. While the weather conditions were not the best, Orange's toughness and grind it out style gave the team its second win of the season in as many tries. Dan Conrad, a freshman out of Marlboro high school was the match medalist (low score) with a one stroke victory over Nassau's Vincent Disclafini. The team score was also razor thin as Orange secured victory by four strokes. Orange's Alex Miller (Valley Central), Garret McGovern (Goshen), and Liam Parker (Washingtonville) all contributed to Orange's winning team score. Parker is a returning player who was a NJCAA National Tournament qualifier last season. Coach Giordano was especially proud of the fortitude the team displayed in rough conditions. "It was windy, wet, and cool which left less than ideal conditions. I]m proud of the grit the team showed in overcoming those obstacles."
The team is back at it next Monday as Rockland will host their second match of the season. The team is working hard and should be in the mix to compete for the Region title in a month's time.
