Valhalla, NY - The SUNY Orange Colts goes 1-1 on Friday, April 24. The Colts took the first game 9-7, and the Vikings took the second game 12-1.
Game One - SUNY Orange (9) - Westchester (7)
The Colts jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, thanks to RBIs from Thomas Grogan (Newburgh, NY / Malboro) and AJ Grant (Highland, NY / Highland).
In the second inning the Colts added two more runs after Ryan Fernandez (Highland Mills, NY / Monroe-Woodbury) scored on a wild pitch, and Grogan added another RBI single.
The Colts drove in three more runs in the third thanks to an RBI double from Fernandez, and Jacob Morino (Goshen, NY / Goshen) added an RBI single. The Vikings responded by bringing in one run of their own bringing the score to 7-1.
SUNY Orange extended the lead in the fourth adding two more runs off RBI from Grant and Jonas Kerzner (Wallkill, NY / Wallkill). Westchester answered back by bringing in three runs.
The Vikings scored twice in the fifth inning and added another run in the sixth, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit, as the Colts held on for a 9-7 win.
Alex Sanchez (Middletown, NY / Middletown) faced 29 batters, allowing six earned runs while striking out four. Morino appeared in relief, facing seven batters and allowing one earned run with two strikeouts, and Michael Schnitzer (Wartsboro, NY / Monticello) faced three batters, allowing no earned runs and recording one strikeout
Game Two - SUNY Orange (1) - Westchester (12)
SUNY Orange got on the board first, bringing in one run in the first inning thanks to an RBI single from Michael Fontaine (Wappingers Falls, NY / Beacon).
In the third inning the Vikings took control of the game scoring three runs. Westchester added three more runs in the fourth, and extended their lead in the fifth with six more runs, securing a 12-1 victory.
Grant started the game and faced 12 batters, giving up three earned runs while striking out three. Schnitzer followed with an appearance against 13 batters, also allowing three earned runs and recording one strikeout. Brandon Brodala (Pine Bush, NY / Pine Bush) then pitched, facing nine batters and allowing one earned run.
