Suffern, NY - The SUNY Orange baseball team went 1-1 on Saturday, April 18. The Colts secured the victory in the first game with a score of 13-3, but the Hawks took the second game with a final score of 27-3.
Game One - SUNY Orange (13) - Rockland (3)
The Colts took a three run lead in the second inning, thanks to a two run RBI single from Ryan Fernandez (Highland Mills, NY / Monroe-Woodbury) and an RBI from Michael Schnitzer (Wartsboro, NY / Monticello). The Hawks answered by bringing one run in the second, and tying the game up in the third by adding two more runs.
In the fourth inning the Colts regained control of the game, driving in runs off an RBI from Schnitzer,Nikolas Marrero (Middletown, NY / Minisink Valley) added an RBI of his own, and Thomas Grogan (Newburgh, NY / Malboro) walked to bring in a forced run.
The Colts secured the victory in the sixth inning, adding seven runs. Grogan doubled to bring in two runs, Grogan added another run scoring on a wild pitch. Jacob Morino (Goshen, NY / Goshen) doubled to right field to add another two runs. Schnitzer singled to center bringing in two runs.
Pitching for the Colts was Alex Sanchez (Middletown, NY / Middletown) facing 29 batters allowing three earned runs and having four strikeouts.
Game Two - SUNY Orange (3) - Rockland (27)
The Hawks quickly took the lead in the first inning driving in nine runs, while holding the Colts scoreless. Rockland added 10 more runs in the second inning to take the 19-0 lead.
The Colts drove in three runs in the third inning thanks to an RBI from AJ Grant (Highland, NY / Highland), Fernandez added an RBI single, and Morino added an RBI double to right field. The Hawks responded by bringing in two more runs to bring the score to 21-3.
In the fourth inning the Hawks added six more runs as they also secured the 27-3 victory.
Gavin Rounds (Montgomery, NY / Valley Central) got the start facing 17 batters allowing nine earned runs with two strikeouts,Brandon Brodala (Pine Bush, NY / Pine Bush) faced eight batters allowing two earned runs and having two strikeouts. Eddy Marte faced nine batters allowing six earned runs, Julian Butcher (Wallkill, NY / Wallkill) faced eight batters with seven earned runs. Shaun Misczuk (Port Jervis, NY / Port Jervis) faced five batters allowing one earned run and having one strikeout.
Next up, the Colts are back in action on Monday, April 20 as they host Rockland at 3:30 p.m.
