Middletown, NY - The SUNY Orange baseball team fell to Ulster County Community College Saturday, April 11 in a doubleheader.
Game One - SUNY Orange (2) - Ulster County (12)
Both the first and second inning were scoreless for both teams, but that would change in the third when the Senators brought in one run, and the Colts quickly matched with a RBI single from freshman Thomas Grogan (Newburgh, NY / Marlboro).
Ulster built momentum in the fourth to drive in four runs, the Colts tried to respond, but only brought in one run when AJ Grant (Highland, NY / Highland) scored on a passed ball.
The Senators brought in one run in the fifth, and secured their victory in the sixth inning after bringing in six more runs to make the final score 12-2.
Garrett Srednicki (Warwick, NY / Warwick) got the start for the Colts pitching 3.2 innings with two earned runs and six strikeouts. Jacob Morino (Goshen, NY / Goshen) made an appearance facing 11 batters allowing five earned runs and striking out two. Michael Schnitzer (Wartsboro, NY / Monticello) pitched for one inning facing five batters with one earned run and two strikeouts.
Game Two - SUNY Orange (4) - Ulster County (13)
The Colts got out to a quick start taking the lead in the first inning scoring one run thanks to a RBI single from Grant. SUNY Orange extended their lead in the second driving in three more runs when Grant brought in one run off a single to third, Jackson Atwell (Newburgh, NY / Beacon) added an RBI of his own off a single to right field, and Grogan walked to bring in a run.
Ulster responded back in the fourth inning by bringing in three runs to cut their deficit to 4-3. In the fifth the Senators drove in three more runs to take the 6-4 lead.
The Senators went on to add one run in the sixth and secured their victory in the seventh inning after scoring six more runs to take the 13-4 win.
Alex Sanchez (Middletown, NY / Middletown) got the start for the Colts facing 29 batters allowing three earned runs and striking out three. Grogan made an appearance facing 13 batters, allowing no earned runs and striking out two. Michael Fontaine (Wappingers Falls, NY / Beacon) faced four batters allowing no earned runs.
Next up, the Colts face Rockland Community College on Thursday, April 16 at 3:30 p.m.
