Baseball Drops Game Against Sussex 19-9
Middletown, NY - The SUNY Orange baseball team fell to Sussex County Community College on Wednesday, March 25. With this loss the Colts drop to 0-6 as the Skylanders improve to 10-10 on their season.
Both teams struggled at the plate through the first two innings, but the Skylanders broke through first in the third bringing in six runs. The Colts brought in one run in the third, thanks to a home run from freshman Thomas Grogan bringing the score to 6-1.
In the fourth inning the Skylanders drove in four more runs, but the Colts responded with a six-run rally. Michael Fontaine drove in two runs. Garrett Srednicki added an RBI single.Nikolas Marrero, Jackson Atwell, Jonas Kerzner walked to bring in runs. It was a great effort from the Colts, but they fell short as the Skylanders held a 10-7 lead.
The Skylanders brought in two more runs in the fifth inning. The Colts answered with two runs of their own, thanks to an RBI double from Jackson Atwell, while Nikolas Marrero scored on a wild pitch.
In the sixth inning the Skylanders extended their lead by driving in seven runs to make it 19-9 while keeping the Colts to a scoreless sixth inning.
The seventh inning went on to be scoreless for both sides and the game closed out at 19-9 in favor for Sussex County.
Garrett Srednicki got the start for the Colts, pitching 2.0 innings while facing 10 batters. He allowed no earned runs and recorded five strikeouts. Jacob Morino made an appearance, facing nine batters while allowing six earned runs and striking out one. Eddy Marte faced five batters and gave up one earned run. Shaun Misczuk faced eight batters, allowing four earned runs with two strikeouts. Julian Butcher faced six batters, giving up two earned runs and recording one strikeout, and Alex Sanchez faced nine batters, allowing four earned runs with one strikeout.
Next up, the Colts are back in action on April 2 as they travel to face Monroe-Bronx.
