Colts vs Skylanders of Sussex County

On Tuesday afternoon the SUNY Orange Colts hosted the Skylanders of Sussex County Community College. This game is the first of five games that the Colts and Skylanders will play against each other. To start things off Freshman Pitcher #45 Anthony Borromeo made his third start of the year and led the bullpen in strikeouts for the game, striking out three batters in two innings. Borromeo took the loss for the Colts, the righty pitcher gave up two runs (zero earned) on three hits and walked zero batters.
The Skylanders were the ones who scored first coming in the first inning of the game, after the first two Sussex batters found their way on base the Colts were able to close out the inning holding the Skylanders to one run. Sussex would soon score an additional run in the second inning to make the score 2-0.
After two scoreless inning the Colts rallied back and cut the lead back down to one run, Fr. #23 Kaen Smith displayed heads up base running after stealing 2nd base and had enough energy to immediately steal 3rd base due to a wild throw. Kaen would soon come around to score for the Colts thanks to AJ Grant who singled to right field giving Grant the RBI.
Late in the game the Skylanders scored seven runs on four hits in the top of the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning the Colts scored three runs after back-to-back-to- back singles from Jackson Atwell, AJ Grant and Ben Intili as all three would come around to score to cut their deficit.
The Colts amassed nine hits in the game. Charlie Gargulio drove the middle of the lineup leading the Colts with two runs batted in. The first baseman went 1-2 with two walks. Leadoff hitter Jackson Atwell led the Colts with three hits in five at bats. Brian Saldana and AJ Grant each finished with multiple hits. On the defensive side C. Gargulio and A. Grant converted the games only double play.
The SUNY Orange Colts had an active bullpen in this game as their were seven different pitchers who made an appearance on the mound, three of those seven pitchers finished with zero hits allowed and zero earned runs.
- Ronnie Anzovino threw two innings in relief striking out one batter and waling three out of 8 batters faced.
- Evan Johnson pitched just one inning striking out one batter and walking two in six batters faced
- Niko Mandich who made his very first appearance on the mound threw for one inning allowing zero hits, zero runs and walking just one batter and also fielded a ground ball for the first out.
The Colts suffer their tenth loss on the year, they will look to rally back as they play in their first conference match-up of the season taking on the Vikings of Westchester Community College on Thursday April 3rd. This game is one of three consecutive days in which these two teams will be playing against each other.
